Campidoglio

With the Renaissance the papacy really wanted to return Rome to its former greatness hence the name meaning rebirth. Harmony was very important in this form, straight lines.

The Campidoglio or capital is a scene were all the most religious and political ceremonies took place. Here Michelangelo created a beautiful piazza that can be reached by a flight of steps he also made.

When you walk up the steps a geometric paving can be seen on the floor with the building which also has a geometric facade. In the middle of the capital stands a equestrian bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius but this is only a replica and the original was put into a museum.
